Every month, the Single Gourmet of Long Island puts together a newsletter with all the events scheduled for the coming month. The newsletter includes dates, locations and cost of each event, and is sent to our members electronically or by mail, including to each member's preference.
The Single Gourmet of Long Island will offer 2-3 events per month, which may be held any day of the week, including weekends. Since the Single Gourmet of Long Island has reciprocity with the other Single Gourmet chapters, our newsletter will also include events scheduled by the New York City chapter so you can plan your social calendar accordingly. We will try to avoid conflicts wherever possible.
Once you have received your monthly newsletter, you decide which of the upcoming events you would like to attend. You can then make your reservation online using your credit card or your PayPal account. Or, if you prefer, you can mail in your reservation request along with your check, or call us with your credit card information.
You may attend as many or as few events as your wish. Reservations must be received at least one week prior to the event. Online reservations will be accepted up to 4 days prior to the event, as long as there is seating availability. During the last 4 days before an event, reservations will be subject to availability and will only be accepted by phone.
Since most restaurants have a limited seating capacity, the Single Gourmet follows a "first come, first serve" policy. Make your reservation early to avoid being left out.
Restaurants are selected for culinary excellence and ambiance. Long Island offers a wide range of interesting and diverse cuisines. Every month we strive to offer a tantalizing variety - everything from haute cuisine to exciting ethnic discoveries. We will visit the best of what both Nassau and Suffolk counties have to offer.
Our dinner events usually offer a three- or four-course meal with interesting and appealing choices from the restaurant's menu.
The cost to join the Single Gourmet of Long Island is $90, which is good for a full 12-month membership. Renewals are $50/year thereafter. The cost of a dinner is always listed in our newsletter and always includes the full meal, tax, and gratuities. Wine is often included in the price of the dinner. When it is not, one may order wine or any other alcoholic beverage from a waiter and be billed for it separately at the time. A typical dinner runs from $50 to $80 per person. Pre-payment to the Single Gourmet of Long Island, by check, credit card, or PayPal, is required.
Cancellations are accepted up to 4 days before an event, for a full refund minus a $5 handling fee. If you need to cancel within the last 4 days, we will refund you only if we are able to replace your reservation, either from a waiting list or with some other latecomer. Cancellations on the day of the event are non-refundable.
Non-members can attend Single Gourmet events only as guests of a member, for an additional $5 on top of the cost of the event (or $10 If the cost of the event is $76 and up). Guest reservations must be made by a member and can only be accepted by phone or mail. If your guest decides to become a Single Gourmet member as a result, we will add a month free-of-charge to your membership.
